College Students Developed Rape Drug Indicator Nail Polish

 Four men at North Carolina State University are changing the world —
 with nail polish.
Ankesh Madan, Stephen Gray, Tyler Confrey-Maloney and Tasso Von Windheim have created a nail polish called Undercover Colors, which changes colors when exposed to date rape drugs.
Women can test for the drugs by stirring their drinks with their fingers. If drugs such as Rohypnol, Xanax and GHB are present, it’ll change color.

“With our nail polish, any woman will be empowered to discreetly ensure her safety by simply stirring her drink with her finger,” their Facebook page explains. “If her nail polish changes color, she’ll know that something is wrong.”

With their innovative product, these college guys are hoping to change the world—by instilling fear in the would-be assaulters. “In effect, we want to shift the fear from the victims to the perpetrators,” they explained on Facebook.

According to their social profile, their goal of preventing sexual assault was motivated by the startling statistics—in the United States, 18-percent of women will be sexually assaulted in their lifetime.
“That’s almost one out of every five women in our country,” they explain. “We may not know who they are, but these women are not faceless. They are our daughters, they are our girlfriends, and they are our friends.”

N*ked Woman Causes Multi-Car Accident

A nude woman sunbathing in the Austrian capital Vienna caused snarl ups on a major road when she positioned her naked body out of a window to get the maximum out of the suns rays.

The naked woman was snapped by student Gregory Shakaki lying on her window ledge with her legs dangling out of a third floor window.

Shakaki said: I thought I was suffering sunstroke when I saw it.

Motorist Michael Kienast told local media: I was behind two guys who had a fender bender because the motorists in front took their eyes off the road to glance up at the view. The young woman was obviously keen on getting some sun in a place where it doesnt usually shine!

I heard the guy who was rear-ended shout to the motorist who had hit him: Didnt you look where you were supposed to be going?

The driver who hit him said: Sorry, I was distracted, and pointed up to the window where the woman was lying.

The guy who was hit then said: Oh, right, I see what you mean.

Several cars were blocking the road before police arrived but by then she had disappeared inside and closed the windows. 

State Security Service Arrests NFF President, Aminu Maigari

The President of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), Aminu Maigari was arrested today Tuesday 26th August 2014 by the State Security Service (SSS).

The arrest was ordered to stop the general assembly gathering at the Chida Hotel, Abuja.

He was arrested alongside the NFF Secretary-General Musa Amadu and a board member Chris Green.

According to Sahara Reporters, the arrest is causing a lot of commotion at the venue of the congress, as those in Maigari’s camp feel it is an attempt to sideline them in the scheme of things as the congress aims to chart a way forward for the troubled Nigerian football body.

The NFF has faced lots of controversy over the past couple of months. If you recall, Maigari was impeached but at the order of FIFA, he was reinstated. The headquarter also caught fire recently.

I don’t want to be PMAN president again, says Kevin Lucciano

Contrary to the rumour making the rounds, Kevin Lucciano Gabriel, chairman of caretaker committee of Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), has declared that he is not interested in being president of the body come October next year when a new election will hold.

Gabriel, made the statement recently at the flag-off of a peace initiative campaign tagged ‘Light up the unity flame for Nigeria campaign’ at the PMAN Headquarters in Ikeja, Lagos.

According to him, “I’m only just being here till October 29, 2015. I have no plans to contest an election to be PMAN president. I don’t want to be PMAN president. I have other things to look forward to in life. I would appreciate that more younger generation artistes would come and dominate this union because this union belongs to them. Nigeria will not register another union for musicians.

This is the only one that will continue to be so now. There should be an election come October 29, 2015. God’s willing, we are hoping that more of this younger generation artistes will also come and be part of the event.”

He further disclosed that the biggest pirates in the industry today are the digital download company. “Who regulates them? He asked. “At least, there is a regulatory body for the Nigerian Communication Commission. But who regulates the music industry? It is really sad. Without a union, you have no industry.”

He further stated that the future of Nigeria music industry belongs to the musicians themselves and entrepreneurs in the music industry. He, therefore, urged them to take their own future in their hands by making decisions on how the industry should be.

If you already decided to give the plunging neckline a well-deserved shot this season, you should take into consideration two important aspects: your figure type and your level of confidence.

If you are well-endowed and want to try this look, make sure the cups of the top (dress) are roomy enough to accommodate your breasts; keep in mind that too much breast tissue pushed together or flattened out can look inappropriate; do opt for a subtle plunging neckline, in dark colours and for delicate pieces of lingerie peeping out from below your plunging top (dress); same rule goes if you want to sport the trend without having to expose too much skin.

While the deep V neckline is flattering to many women for elongating the torso, it also looks best on those with more modest chests (C cups or less). If you’re body is built that way, you can safely sport the infinite plunge for more of a daring look, remembering to: keep the rest of your outfit somewhat subdued (the rule of flaunting one body part at a time); pick a cool pair of flats instead of heels to keep things from looking too over-the-top sexy; use double-stick tape to avoid any possible malfunctions.

Jackie Chan’s Son Jaycee Chan Arrested After Being Caught In Huge Anti-Drug Crackdown

Jackie Chan’s son has become the latest celebrity to be detained on drug-related charges in one of China’s biggest anti-drug crackdowns in two decades. Jaycee Chan, 31, was arrested last Thursday along with the 23-year-old Taiwanese star Kai Ko, Beijing police said on Monday. It is unclear why the announcement of the detentions was delayed for several days. 

Police said both actors tested positive for marijuana and admitted using the drug, and that 100g of it was taken from Chan’s home. Jaycee Chan’s management, M’Stones International, apologised to the public on his behalf for the “social impact” caused in a statement on their website. It said they would “supervise his rehabilitation and help him return to the right path”. Jaycee Chan was born and raised in Los Angeles and has tried to launch a film and music career, which has not flourished. 

He is known as a playboy in China and is said to have frustrated his father with his extravagant lifestyle. The detentions follow a declaration in June by President Xi Jinping that illegal drugs should be wiped out and that offenders would be severely punished. In Beijing alone, more than 7,800 people have been caught in the crackdown, police said.

Jackie Chan was in London for a screening of Chinese Zodiac last week Last week, 42 Beijing performing arts associations and theatre companies signed a pledge to not hire any actors connected with drugs in an event organised by the capital’s Narcotics Control Office and the Beijing Cultural Bureau. Pi Yijun, an anti-drug adviser for the Beijing government, said authorities were targeting celebrities because “these people have a large number of fans, so their behaviour tends to have a huge influence on young people”. 

Chinese state broadcaster CCTV aired footage of a police search of the younger Chan’s home in Beijing in which he is depicted, his face pixelated, showing officers where he stashed bags of marijuana. Police said they acted on a tip-off from the public. Chan is accused of accommodating drug users, an offence that carries a maximum sentence of three years’ imprisonment – a far more serious charge than that of drug consumption. 

Two other people detained in the same case were accused of selling drugs while Ko is accused of drug consumption. China named the elder Chan an anti-drug ambassador in 2009. Ko, the Taiwanese star, was part of an anti-drug campaign two years ago, CCTV reported, showing footage of the campaign in which he joins other celebrities in a chorus declaring: “I don’t use drugs.” He was shown on CCTV, his face pixelated, tearfully apologising to his fans and family. “I feel very regretful, very sorry to all the people who support me … I’ve been a very bad example, I’ve made a very big mistake,” he said.

LASU To Refund Over N840m For Student Excess Payment

Lagos State University, LASU, is to refund over N840 million fees paid by the students following the directive by Governor Babatunde Fashola to revert it to the old fees of N25, 000.

Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. John Obafunwa who disclosed this in an interview said management had compiled the list of the students who would receive the excess fund.

Obafunwa said, “We have already calculated the excess paid by the students, do not forget that even before the reversal, a lot of them have already paid for this session and we have already calculated within, what have been paid in excess. We have calculated over N840 million. It will only be for this session.

The reversal does not mean LASU will go back to where it used to be and the problems of the past. You cannot go beyond the available infrastructure. You cannot take more than what you can’t admit. I don’t see any disadvantage in the reduction of the fee.”

He maintained that the fee reversal was not a decision of the university’s management, noting that “don’t forget there is the governing council and government, who are equally involved. It is a joint decision. Be that as it may, it is a welcome decision in a way depending on who is looking at it or commenting.”

The vice chancellor however, insisted that the reversal of the fees would have both good and bad sides, noting that the reversal would be a reduction in the expenditure of the school.

Assuring parents and students, Obafunwa said, “Nothing is going to happen to all the capital projects going on in the university.

”The students have a role to play, they should take advantage of the fee reduction, pay attention to their studies and be more serious. You can be sure that next year, you will have lots of people applying to come to LASU, you must have the necessary infrastructure in place to accommodate any number.

If you have more people applying to LASU, it gives you the opportunity to pick from the best. We are preparing our minds for those things; we expect parents to educate their children to maintain a very high standard.”

Obafunwa said it was unfortunate that the school had to go through a phase in the history, saying now that things were in shape, the current interest of parents, university administration and students would be to make progress as regard to the academic calendar.

He added “And that is what we are focusing on now and I can tell you that we have had meeting with students union. The students have paid their fees. We reopen the portal after making adjustment to the new fees.”

Boko Haram Abducts 100 Young Men In Borno

Islamist militant sect Boko Haram is yet to #BringBackOurGirls and now, a report states they have taken young men.

Punch reports that during a Sunday attack in Doron Baga, Borno community, 100 boys and young men were abducted while 10 were allegedly killed by Boko Haram.

According to the news publication, some of those that fled the area were sighted in Maiduguri on Thursday. They said they had to flee because of the constant attacks by the insurgents.

Halima Alhaji Adamu, one of the displaced persons said six members of Hadejia community in Doron Baga were killed and about 100 young men were abducted on Sunday when the sect launched an attack on their community, displacing thousands who are now refugees in parts of Borno and Yobe states.

Halima also said that she lost her husband in the attack. She claims the insurgents are believed to have abducted the young men in order to forcefully conscript them.

“The attack was on Sunday, in my family they killed six people, I don’t know about the other families but the Hadaijawa community which I belong also had 100 of the abducted by the insurgents.

I think it is better to go and live with family members than opting for camps. We lost everything we have worked for, and I don’t think the camp will be a better place for us.

With family members, we can have the courage to face life again but the camp will continue to make us reflect on our predicament because there is no care as such no focus for one to engage himself or herself into doing something meaningful.”

Actor-Comedian Robin Williams dies of suspected suicide

63 year old Oscar winning Actor-Comedian Robin Williams was  found dead last night in his home in Northern California.

The police issued a statement saying the cause of death is suspected  to be a suicide due to asphyxia, but said a “comprehensive investigation must be completed before a final determination is made.”

His wife, Susan Schneider, confirmed the news in a statement released through the actor’s publicist. “This morning I lost my husband and best friend, while the world lost one of its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings. I am utterly heartbroken,” she said.

His representative, Mara Buxbaum, said in a statement that he had lately been “battling severe depression” and added: “This is a tragic and sudden loss. The family respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time.”

In a White House statement, Barack Obama said: “Robin Williams was an airman, a doctor, a genie, a nanny, a president, a professor, a bangarang Peter Pan, and everything in between. But he was one of a kind. He arrived in our lives as an alien – but he ended up touching every element of the human spirit.”

Julius Agwu: My People Have Been Clamouring For Me To Lead Them

When Julius Agwu announced that he will be contesting for the Governor of Rivers state last week, lots of people thought he was just joking and some went as far as calling him names and insulting him, but the comedian is not discouraged as he has further discussed his vision for the state. On why he wants to be governor: “Becoming the governor of Rivers State was not something that came up overnight. It was not on my radar back then. The people of Rivers State in the Diaspora and those in the State have been clamouring for me to come out as an aspirant. They believe I have what it takes to go for it. It just dawned on me that I indeed have what it takes. I have given it a serious thought and have given in to their pressure.” 

On if they’ll sponsor him: “Yes, they will. But I do not want to disclose their names for security reasons.” 

On his political party: “Yes, we shall, eventually, but I do not want to unveil that now.” 

On possibly running for presidency: “Yes, when the time comes it will be revealed.”

Burna Boy’s Mom Speaks About Her Son And About Being Fired As Manager

Some weeks back, rave of the moment artiste, Burna Boy, via twitter, relieved his mother Bose Ogulu who had been his manager, of her duties.

However in a telephone chat with Punch newspaper, his mother, Ogulu, said there is no role bigger than being the mother of a star and explained that her son did not “fire” her while still claiming she still manages most of his business activities.

She said,

“I was not in the country when the story broke and I have said I would not make any comment on it because it is totally unimportant. Whether I am his manager or not, he is my child and there is no role bigger than that. I am so shocked about how people made a big deal of the issue. I am not a musician or an entertainer, so I don’t owe anyone an explanation but he has done enough.
“They should just leave the poor boy alone. I am not a twitter reading person; I talk to him on a daily basis, so I am not interested in what is on twitter. I have absolutely no problem with my child and as far as his career goes, I still do what I have to do. I still do everything I used to do but I cannot always do everything. I was out of the country for about eight weeks, how much can I do? There is no issue with us and there is no reason to feel anyhow. It is something we discussed and I still do what I have to do, I still manage some of his accounts, transactions and endorsements but I can’t do everything. There is no issue there at all. If I have an issue with my son I would go and meet him. I still handle his corporate shows because nobody else can do that for now. I am only one person and I am not a young person and he is going bigger every day. This is not something that should have been misconceived at all.”

Though her son also tweeted on social media that he wasn’t going to get married, Ogulu dismissed the tweet, saying it was laughable.

“The boy is 23 and if he feels that at his age he would not marry, he can change his mind in five years. He can even change his mind tomorrow. I am just laughing that he said he would not get married. How many people have said that in the industry and are married today? When I was younger, I remember saying that I would not get pregnant when I saw pregnant women but now, I have three children,” she said.

The movie has been able to surpass other box office trailblazers like Last Flight to Abuja (N8.35Million), Phone Swap (N3.72Million), Maami (N3.30Million), and The Return of Jennifer (N10Million).

‘Half of a Yellow Sun’ is a movie set in the era of the Biafran war in Nigeria. It is a story of love, lust, jealousy, greed and brings to light the effects of war on the lives of everyone it touches.

The movie, featuring BAFTA award winner and Oscar nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor, BAFTA award winner Thandie Newton,Onyeka Onwenu, Genevieve Nnaji, O.C. Ukeje, and Zack Orji, is adapted from Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s award-winning international best-seller, and is written and directed by Biyi Bandele.

‘Half of a Yellow Sun’ has been screened at film festivals around the world, has already won several awards, and has been enjoying an international cinema release in major international territories including the UK, US and Australia, with releases across Africa, Latin America and Europe still to come.

The movie opened in Nigerian cinemas on 1st August.
